Breeders
The breeder herd is where nutrition pays or costs the most. Condition at calving determines how quickly a cow returns to cycling, and condition at joining determines conception. Bulls
Bulls are often over-fed before a sale and under-fed afterwards. Overly fat bulls have poorer semen quality and break down structurally; bulls that lose heavy condition during a long joining come back needing months of recovery. Feed them to work, and give them a recovery period on decent feed once they come out.
Dairy cows
