Livestock Marketeers recently honoured two outstanding individuals at their 59th Annual Hall of Fame banquet held at the American Shorthorn Association in Platte Woods, Mo. The 2024 inductees, Darryl Rahn and Roger Jacobs, were recognised for their contributions to the livestock industry. Let’s take a closer look at the remarkable careers of these esteemed individuals.
Darryl Rahn hails from Virginia, Ill, and has always had a deep-rooted connection to farming. Growing up on a farm in Lanark, Illinois, Darryl developed a passion for agriculture that would shape his future. After pursuing higher education at Illinois State University, Darryl, along with his brother-in-law Don Cagwin, ventured into managing the Questing Hills operation.
Their journey in the industry took a significant turn when they organised the first-ever National Maine Anjou Sale in Louisville, Ky. This marked the beginning of Darryl’s illustrious career in various sectors of the livestock industry. From cattle breeding to insurance sales, sale management, ad sales, print media design, and breed association work, Darryl has left an indelible mark at every step.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Darryl is a devoted family man. Together with his wife Carole, they raised two children, Andy and Angela, while navigating the demands of a dynamic career. Darryl’s commitment to excellence and innovation has earned him a well-deserved place in the Livestock Marketeers Hall of Fame.
On the other hand, Roger Jacobs, a native of Billings, Mt, carved out his own unique path in the livestock industry. A graduate of North Dakota State, Roger’s career trajectory led him to the American Angus Association in 1977. Over the years, he showcased his expertise as the Angus Journal Fieldman for the Western U.S. and Western Canada from 1981 to 1983.
Following his tenure with Angus, Roger transitioned into the role of a purebred livestock auctioneer. Renowned for his commanding presence and deep industry knowledge, Roger has served as the voice of many prestigious purebred herds across the nation. His dual role as an auctioneer and trusted advisor has cemented his reputation as a stalwart in the industry.
Roger’s partnership with his wife Sandy, whom he married in 1979, has been the cornerstone of his personal and professional endeavours. Together, they have raised three daughters and are proud grandparents to eight grandchildren. Roger’s unwavering dedication to his craft and his clients has rightfully earned him a place among the Livestock Marketeers Hall of Fame inductees.
The Livestock Marketeers organisation stands as a beacon of excellence in the livestock marketing profession. Each year, the Marketeers Banquet, held in Kansas City, brings together industry veterans, enthusiasts, and supporters to celebrate achievements and foster camaraderie. The event, complemented by the Marketeers Classic Golf Tournament, serves as a platform to honour individuals like Darryl Rahn and Roger Jacobs for their outstanding contributions.
Moreover, the Livestock Marketeers Scholarship, introduced this year, underscores the organisation’s commitment to nurturing future talent in the field. By channelling proceeds from the banquet towards funding the scholarship, the Livestock Marketeers are investing in the education and development of aspiring professionals.
In conclusion, the Livestock Marketeers Hall of Fame induction ceremony is a testament to the enduring legacy of individuals who have made significant impacts in the livestock industry.
